Andrew Cole is professor of English and director of the Gauss Seminars at Princeton University. He is author of The Birth of Theory (2014), which is the first of a three-volume work, of which the forthcoming Foundations of the Dialectic and the subsequent Unmodernism are a part. His essays on dialectics, idealism, materialism, and the histories of philosophy and theory appear in Artforum, PMLA, October, Problemi, the minnesota review, representations, Crisis and Critique, and elsewhere. He has also coedited The Legitimacy of the Middle Ages: On the Unwritten History of Theory (2010), as well as authored a major study of medieval literature entitled, Literature and Heresy in the Age of Chaucer (2008).
