Avery Slater is assistant professor of English at the University of Toronto. She is a faculty affiliate at the University of Toronto’s Ethics of AI Lab, where her research focuses on questions emerging at the intersection of artificial intelligence and the humanities. Her current book project Apparatus Poetica looks at how late modernist theories of poetic process respond to and interact with the rise of computation and information technologies. Her work has appeared in journals such as Cultural Critique, Symplokē, American Literature, and Amodern. Her chapter on AI and creativity is forthcoming in the Oxford Handbook of Ethics for Artificial Intelligence (2020).
