Emily Merson is a contract faculty course instructor and researcher at York University. She is the author of Creative Presence: Settler Colonialism, Indigenous Self-Determination, and Decolonial Contemporary Artwork (2020), and the editor and author of the introductory chapter of The Art of Global Power: Artwork and Popular Cultures as World-Making Practices (2020). She is writing her next book manuscript, titled Out of This World: Speculative Writing, Decolonial Feminist Reading, and Climate Justice, which includes archival research on Octavia E. Butler’s papers at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California.
