Jean Ma is an associate professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Stanford University. She is the author of Melancholy Drift: Marking Time in Chinese Cinema (2010) and Sounding the Modern Woman: The Songstress in Chinese Cinema (2015). Her current project is a book about sleeping in the movies.
