Jeffrey Saletnik is an assistant professor of modern art in the department of Art History at Indiana University. His research engages the social infrastructures and mechanisms that undergird cultural production: pedagogy, emigration networks, material culture, and modes of translation. He has published essays on Josef Albers, László Moholy-Nagy, John Cage, and Robert Rauschenberg and coedited Bauhaus Construct: Fashioning Identity, Discourse, and Modernism, a volume that addresses how so-called Bauhaus objects—from teapots and documentary photographs to the Bauhaus manifesto broadsheet and copyright documentation—were employed to model the school’s identity.
