Joel Gordon is professor of History at the University of Arkansas and editor of the International Journal of Middle East Studies. He is the author of Nasser: Hero of the Arab Nation (2006), Revolutionary Melodrama (2002), and Nasser's Blessed Movement (1991). He teaches and writes about the intersections of public and popular culture, historical memory and nostalgia, and religious and secular cross-currents, with emphases on cinema, music, and mass media.
