Michael Raine is assistant professor of film studies at Western University, Canada. He is editing, with Johan Nordström, the anthology The Culture of the Sound Image in Prewar Japan; he is coeditor of the Journal of Japanese and Korean Cinema and is currently at work on a book project titled The Cinema of High Economic Growth: New Japanese Cinemas, 1955–1964. He has published widely on Japanese cinema and media, most recently in Reorienting Ozu: A Master and His Influence (2018), and the journal Film History (forthcoming).
