Rachel Ablow is professor of English at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. She is the author of The Marriage of Minds: Reading Sympathy in the Victorian Marriage Plot (2007) and Victorian Pain (2017). She is the editor of The Feeling of Reading: Affective Experience and Victorian Literature (2010), special issues of Victorian Studies (2008) and Representations (2019), and, most recently, The Norton Anthology of English Literature: The Victorian Age (2024). Her essay, “Revenge Tragedy: Harriet Martineau, the Haitian Revolution, and Reparations” is forthcoming in the spring 2025 issue of Critical Inquiry.
