Rebecca Bedell is professor of art history at Wellesley College. She has published widely on landscape art, including The Anatomy of Nature: Geology and American Landscape Painting, 1825-1875. Her most recent book is Moved to Tears: Rethinking the Art of the Sentimental in the United States (2018), which seeks to disrupt modernist and postmodernist dismissals of sentimental art and transform understanding of its nature and cultural power.
